Youth and Family Event Volunteer Coordinator
Job Introduction
As the Youth & Family Events Volunteer Coordinator, you'll be an essential part of the small team that delivers our UK - wide programme of events for children and young people with type 1 - our Type 1 family weekenders and Type 1 residential camps. The events are life changing for the families who attend - all thanks to our community of dedicated volunteers. Your role will be to recruit, manage and support the volunteers - mainly diabetes specialist healthcare professionals and people living with or impacts by type 1.
We have a friendly and inclusive working environment here at Diabetes UK and are proud of our ‘Connected Working’ framework which allows great flexibility in the way that we work. This means that you can balance your working time between home and the office, subject to the needs of your role of course. We do not dictate the number of days you have to attend the office.

Role Responsibility
You’ll manage volunteer applications to make sure everyone has completed our safer recruitment process and relevant training. You’ll support each volunteer with everything they need to get the most out of their volunteering experience. You’ll keep volunteers engaged with regular communications and community development activities. You’ll promote volunteering opportunities to suitable healthcare professionals. And you’ll be an essential part of the Youth & Family Events service, attending the events and working with the team to make each one a success.
The Ideal Candidate
You’ll have plenty of experience in volunteering – maybe professionally, but ideally as a volunteer yourself – and you’ll be passionate about providing volunteers with the best possible experience. You’ll know how to prioritise different areas of work with different deadlines and stay organised. You’ll be committed to the outcomes the service aims to achieve for children and young people with type 1 and their families. And you’ll be committed to following and championing Diabetes UK’s policies and procedures on volunteer management, safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection.
