Trustee - Voluntary role

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

Would you like to be part of our vision?

Our vision is a world where diabetes can do no harm.  With one in 15 of us now living with diabetes, we need that change for the next generation.
We are looking for two more trustees to join our Board of Trustees, one living in Northern Ireland and one living in Wales.  As the leading charity for people living with diabetes in the UK, it’s important that we have Trustees from all four nations so that, at Board level, we recognise challenges and opportunities in the devolved nations.

We would also particularly like to encourage applications from those with a Black, Asian, or Minority Ethnic background as we recognise the value that greater diversity brings to our Trustee Board and to our work.

We are looking for applicants who are passionate about our work, possess good independent judgement, will appreciate the collective responsibilities of the Trustee Board and who think strategically.  Our Trustees are appointed for a three-year term and can be re-appointed for two further terms of up to three years each.

The expectation is that our Trustees prepare for and attend five Board meetings a year, plus an annual Board away day. Most will also sit on one of the Board’s sub-committees (during normal circumstances, these meetings take place at our London office).

Our Trustees are not remunerated but reasonable travel and/or subsistence expenses are reimbursed.

An information pack can be accessed below where you will find further details on how to apply, including contacts for an informal discussion.

The deadline for applications is Friday 30 October and we anticipate that (virtual) interviews will be held during the week starting 16 November.

About the Company

Diabetes is the most devastating and fastest growing health crisis of our time.  There are currently 3.8 million people in the UK diagnosed with diabetes, and 1 million more with undiagnosed Type 2.

We are working to make sure that those affected by diabetes get the best care and support they need to live well with their condition and avoid life-changing complications.  We're leading the way by funding critical research, improving healthcare and treatment so we can reach our vision of a world where diabetes can do no harm.

Diabetes UK staff are motivated and experienced and extremely passionate about helping people affected by diabetes.  We have been fighting for people with diabetes for more than 80 years and changed millions of lives thanks to the new treatments, technology and policy changes we've been behind.

But there's more to do.  And you can be part of it.

We're a diverse bunch and as a charity we recognise and respect the value of everyone.

We've recently been awarded a One Star Accreditation status by Best Companies.  And this year we were named 65th in the top 100 not-for-profit organisations in the Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For list.

We're committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk and expect all staff and volunteers to actively support this commitment.

We have a vision of a world where diabetes can do no harm.  If you’d like to be part of that, why not join us?
