Senior Policy Officer

Job Introduction

Diabetes UK’s five year strategy has identified clear outcomes and drivers which we believe will move us closer to creating a world where diabetes can do no harm. Prevention and remission of type 2 diabetes are key to this, along with ensuring better care for those living with diabetes.  In addition, tackling inequalities are a major driver for delivering on all our outcomes. As a Senior Policy Officer based in our Policy, Campaigns and Improvement directorate you will lead on the development and co-ordination of policy, knowledge and insight, in order to support influencing throughout the UK in pursuit of our strategic outcomes. By conducting policy research and stakeholder engagement, you’ll play a vital role to develop policy positions and help colleagues across the charity better understand the evidence to underpin and inform the development of strategies for addressing key issues.

Role Responsibility

You will lead on developing our policy positions on a range of areas prioritised in our current strategy. Initially the focus is likely to be on treatment and prevention of obesity in people with diabetes and the general population, mental health and stigma.  As a Senior Policy Officer you’ll work proactively across the organisation to ensure consistent policy messages and to inform campaigning and influencing activities by producing briefings, consultation responses, and other content.

The Ideal Candidate

You will have experience of working in a policy role in a charity or similar organisation. You can use insight and research to analyse and investigate complex policy issues and make clear proposals to address these.  It would be especially useful if you have experience of policy work in a health- related organisation or setting. You communicate clearly and can explain policy positions to a range of stakeholders. You are curious and keen to understand and improve the lived experiences of people with poor health outcomes.
