Role Responsibility

Reporting to the Head of Content and News, the successful post holder will join the organisation at an exciting time of change and opportunity, and will be responsible for delivering a media strategy that supports the delivery of our ambitious organisation-wide goals.

In addition to supporting setting our strategic direction, the Senior Media Manager will be responsible for leading our UK-wide media activity, storytelling and celebrity functions, and ensuring delivery against key objectives and KPIs. Overseeing a diverse, wide-ranging portfolio of projects, and the expert media, stories and celebrity teams responsible for delivering them, you’ll lead on bold, creative media campaigns that ensure key diabetes issues receive standout and sustained media coverage across print, broadcast and digital news outlets.

As a critical member of the Marketing and Communications department, you’ll be responsible for providing training, advice and counsel to colleagues at all levels and across all areas of Diabetes UK, ensuring we speak with one voice, and that our media activities are attuned always to achieving our goals and improving the lives of people living with and affected by diabetes.

The Ideal Candidate

As well as solid experience in leading a high-performing media team, and an impressive track record – not just of securing coverage, but of shifting opinions and perceptions, challenging stigma and driving tangible social change – you’ll take a sophisticated approach to setting goals, getting results and evaluating success.

As a seasoned media professional who inspires confidence in others and shows grace under fire, you’ll have solid and demonstrable experience in safeguarding an organisation’s reputation, as you’ll work as a trusted advisor to our Executive Team across a range of issues.

With strong traditional media and communications know-how, you’ll have a creative instinct that extends beyond crafting a first-class press release, and you’ll bring with you an open mind, a refined news sense, exceptional writing ability and a experience of building great relationships with our colleagues across print, digital and broadcast media. As an enthusiastic team player, you’re experienced in working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and you’ll come armed with ideas on how best to use media in partnership with a range of difference channels – particularly content – to bring issues to life for different audiences in imaginative ways, and drive engagement and long-term support.

Most importantly, along with the ambition to grab this exciting opportunity with both hands, you’ll bring gravitas, confidence, enthusiasm and determination to this fast-paced, high-energy role, together with a steadfast commitment to ending the diabetes crisis.
