National Care Advisor – Northern Ireland

Job Introduction

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional to join the Diabetes UK NI team and make a difference for people living with diabetes. You will play an integral role in this small, dynamic team ensuring people living with diabetes have a voice in all we do, supporting healthcare professionals, and working closely with the Diabetes Network to ensure the delivery of better diabetes services.

Role Responsibility

As the National Care Advisor you will be responsible for promoting improvements in diabetes-related health care delivery. You will work across Northern Ireland building strong links in all Trusts and will work in partnership with people living with diabetes to ensure all our work and messages are informed directly by their lived experience. As the National Care Advisor you will work closely with healthcare professionals ensuring they have timely access to resources and promoting evidence-based best practice. You will be responsible for leading on the meaningful engagement of people living with diabetes in the Diabetes Network ensuring that their experience is embedded in service design and delivery processes. You will also provide clinical advice for events for children and adults with Type 1 across the UK.    

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent, a Registered Nurse or Dietitian with experience in diabetes care (preferably at specialist level) and will have proven experience of working in a healthcare environment. 

You should be highly motivated to work collaboratively with colleagues, both internally and externally, to ensure the best outcomes for people living with diabetes. You will have a high level of personal credibility and will be highly skilled in communicating with a range of audiences. You will be experienced in networking with proven negotiating and influencing skills, and in supporting people to influence systems and processes using a range of engagement skills.
