Java & Data Analysis Engineer

Job Introduction

At the heart of our upcoming strategy lies the need to drive changes within our IS department to support our transition to a cloud technology stack that supports our data strategy, and to enhance the way we support new and current information systems. Fundamental to this process is to make identify and implement improvements to better support our data, and systems used for our fundraising, memberships management, beneficiaries, volunteers, and supporter activities.

Role Responsibility

This is one of two roles required to work in IS to deliver organisation-wide ELT, data import, master data management, semantic modelling and BI in cloud technologies. This will be done while fostering an entrepreneurial and creative work ethic, and willingness to learn and adapt to emerging technologies. This role will work closely with a Senior Data Developer to support the delivery of robust, consistent integrations, and new technical analytics tools for insight leads in teams across the organisation to be able to build reports and dashboards. In turn we know this will lead to better relationships between Diabetes UK and those who benefit from our services and those dedicated to supporting our cause of working towards a world where Diabetes can do no harm. 

We need your expertise to ensure the integrity of our data, that the value of our data is maximised and to provide excellent technical advice and internal customer service to your colleagues in IT, Engagement & Fundraising, and Customer Care Centre. 

In return, our migration to cloud offers a clear pathway to transfer those skills into the most up-to-date technologies and working practices, so the role requires someone who can master our existing environment and inspire our future.

The Ideal Candidate

You are comfortable working in a busy IS department in a not-for-profit environment and have knowledge of managing data between systems which manage memberships, events and helpline call centres. 

You have at least 2 years’ data engineering experience and are proficient in using SQL (Selects, Stored Procedures, Functions, Views, Permissions), SSIS, SSRS, Azure Active Directory, experienced with Git / Azure DevOps for version control, Visual Studio, VS Code, SSMS, MySQL Workbench, Power BI and comfortable working with VM. Some experience of Azure Synapse and Data factory desirable.

You will be required to:

  • Develop API using Object Oriented Languages, exposure to Java 8 is preferred
  • Improve ETL Processes
  • Understanding of cloud architectures, including supporting cloud migration to Azure
  • Review on-premises data warehouse build processes to help build up reporting capabilities (SSIS, SSRS & PowerBI)
  • CRM Data/Gap Analysis to ensure that we achieve optimal records for our supporters/members
  • Knowledge of CRM systems, ideally Dynamics 365 or Salesforce
  • Attention to detail and motivated by identifying root causes and managing problems efficiently & swiftly to resolution

You are eager to learn and work with the new Microsoft Azure data stack and develop your technical skills to support our Data engineers and Developers.

You are a confident member of an IT team having used ITIL and continuous improvement processes for increasing the quality-of-service delivery to our stakeholders.
