Digital Engagement Officer - North of England

Job Introduction

Over the past two years Diabetes UK has witnessed a significant change in how we engage with people living with and at risk of diabetes. During this time digital engagement has become a clear development area for us within our national and regional teams.  
We are therefore seeking to appoint a Digital Engagement Officer to support the development and delivery of an effective local digital engagement plan, in agreement with the Communications Manager. Based within the North of England the successful person will help us achieve a revolution in understanding and support for diabetes by increasing our reach, profile, reputation and influence, using online platforms to engage with the diabetes community and the wider public. Through agreed targeted plans, they will promote the work of Diabetes UK, raise awareness of diabetes among the public, and providers of healthcare service/system, support people living with diabetes and influence improvements in services for people with diabetes.
This is a fantastic opportunity to help us grow our digital engagement to maximise our impact in local communities and drive improvements in diabetes care.

We have a friendly and inclusive working environment here at Diabetes UK and are proud of our ‘Connected Working’ framework which allows great flexibility in the way that we work. This role is based within the North of England and allows for home and office-based working within the region, it is linked to our Warrington office. The person must therefore be based within that region.  Subject to the needs of your role, we do not dictate the number of days you have to attend the office.

Role Responsibility

As Digital Engagement Officer you will use your considerable experience to:

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of a strategic digital engagement plan to support team and organisational objectives. 
  • Develop and deliver proactive communications to raise the profile of Diabetes UK across the North of England  region using various social media channels. 
  • Work collaboratively with other Regional, National and wider organisation colleagues to share best practice and agree effective ways to digitally communicate and mobilise stakeholders from all communities, incorporating key messages across the UK.
  • Build and maintain digital engagement with existing and new stakeholders, to inform and strengthen Diabetes UK’s social media and online activity and overall profile.
     

The Ideal Candidate

This role calls for someone with a strong track record in digital engagement. You should be able to demonstrate understanding of the reputational, legal, GDPR, consent and safeguarding risks involved with media relations and social media and be able to mitigate against these. The ideal person should have experience of motivating and supporting others to deliver digital and social media communications and be familiar with online content management systems. Knowledge and experience of carrying out communications projects and plans across a variety of digital platforms, including websites and social media is essential along with the ability to maintain, review and improve online information and resources.
