Diabetes Stories Manager

Job Introduction

Nearly five million people live with diabetes – and more than 13 million people are at risk. Every single one of these people has an authentic story to tell about their diabetes journey that may help inform and inspire others.

Stepping into this newly-created role, and reporting to the Senior Media Manager in our busy Content & News team, you’ll be a really organised self-starter with a flair for proactively and sensitively searching out people with powerful diabetes stories to tell.

You’ll be keen to shape and grow the organisation’s ability to tell these stories. And you will want to ensure our key supporters feel an affinity with us and our mission, through the telling of real-life stories in a mix of formats on our website, in the press, in social media, in videos and our printed publications.

Role Responsibility

As Diabetes Stories Manager in Content & News, you’ll be joining a team that is dedicated to strengthening and maintaining our position as the trusted source of information, and powerful supportive voice for everyone living with, affected by, and at risk of diabetes.

Managing a Diabetes Stories Officer, you’ll manage our small but brilliant stories team, which is responsible for spotting great human interest stories about diabetes, its treatment and management, and turning them into powerful case studies that demonstrate our impact, and enhance content across our owned and earned communications channels.

Your ideas and expertise will support our mission to provide high profile content that drives awareness, engagement and conversion, that promotes the work of Diabetes UK and that gives a voice to of people living with and affected by diabetes.

The Ideal Candidate

You must be passionate about people, highly skilled at drawing out their stories and great at re-telling them in copy, in commissioned videos and images and repurposing them for our print, social and website channels. You’ll also care about the small but significant details too.

You will understand the sensitivities around representing personal stories to the wider public, and the importance of ensuring individuals are clear about how, when and where we are using their stories, managing safeguarding issues where appropriate, and building and maintaining close relationships between individuals and Diabetes UK.
