Data Engineer (1 x Perm and 1 x 12 months FTC)

Join us as our Senior Data Engineer at Diabetes UK. Are you passionate about making a real difference? We have an exciting opportunity for you to support our mission by driving forward our data strategy and enhancing our data integration, modelling, and warehousing capabilities.
In this dynamic role, you’ll be at the forefront of designing and deploying new data stacks, supporting self-service analytics, and mentoring a team of developers. You will work closely with various teams to ensure secure, prompt access to data across our dispersed workforce, ultimately helping us achieve better relationships with those we serve and support.
We’re looking for someone who can inspire and collaborate, building strong, positive relationships. Your ability to influence and work together with others will help us unlock our data's potential and support organisation-wide access to quality reporting.

Role Responsibility
- Lead the design and deployment of new data stacks for integration, master data management, and warehousing.
- Design and build Data pipelines using Azure tech stack.
- Develop the organisational data model using industry-recognised patterns and standards.
- Undertake data profiling and source system analysis to present clear insights.
- Work within a DevOps environment, ensuring security at each stage of work.
- Diagnose and resolve problems in databases, data processes, and data products.
- Mentor and guide a team of developers to support ELT, data import, and data warehousing.
The Ideal Candidate
- Proficiency in languages like Python, and SQL
- Experience with data warehousing solutions such as Azure Synapse Analytics and Azure SQL
- Skills in designing and implementing ETL pipelines using Azure tech stack
- Familiarity with Spark for big data processing
- Knowledge of relational databases like Azure SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL
- Experience with cloud services such as AWS, Azure
- Ability to design and optimize data models
- Strong analytical skills to interpret complex data sets
- A self-motivated and dynamic nature
- A focus on delivering business benefits by being driven and solutions-focussed
- A diligent approach to problem solving and issue resolution.
- A proven passion for data quality
- Fundamental understanding of data structures and algorithms
- Knowledge of database design, normalization, and indexing
- Understanding of batch and real-time data processing
- Basic knowledge of machine learning concepts and tools
- Awareness of data privacy laws and best practices for data security
- Skills in scripting languages for automation tasks
- In-depth knowledge of cloud computing principles and services
- Understanding of APIs and methods for integrating data from various sources
- Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools
