Job Introduction

Digital technology is central to the way that many people manage their diabetes and we at Diabetes UK want to ensure digital products are built with them in mind.

To do this we are setting up a Commercialising Digital Opportunities income generating business unit aimed at supporting digital health start-ups better understand the needs of people with diabetes and other long-term conditions
Your initial focus will be on setting up a business aimed at helping digital health companies recruit users for testing products, services, or content.  In 2023 we will look to recruit a UX consultant enabling us to offer a full UX consultancy service.
As the lead, your role will be to ensure this exciting new commercial venture is successful. You will be an entrepreneur, responsible for establishing a successful start-up, made possible by investment from Diabetes UK.

Interviews: 24 May 2022 (face-to-face in London, E1 1FH)

Role Responsibility

In 2022 your focus will be setting up the UX participant recruitment offer, supporting start-ups with access to people with diabetes to test their products and services.  You will be responsible for generating leads, landing sales, liaising with clients, and sourcing users for their tests.

You will also establish a series of quarterly networking events for those working in digital health, which will provide an opportunity to market the UX consultancy to potential customers.
In 2023 you will be joined by a UX consultant allowing us to develop a full UX consultancy offer specialising in supporting the development of digital health products aimed at people with diabetes or with other long-term conditions.
The business will need to be financially self-sufficient by the end of 2023 so you will be tenacious and focused on the targets we have set for this venture.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a driven self-starter focused on ensuring this new start-up delivers on our income targets.
You will receive guidance from the Head of Digital and others at Diabetes UK, but we are looking for someone who is motivated, creative, and able to define and manage the work necessary to achieve our ambitions for the business unit.
Ideally you will have some experience of the UX consultancy market, maybe in a management/sales/client representative capacity but this isn’t essential.
What is essential is an entrepreneurial mindset and evidence of building new teams, services, products, or companies from scratch.
You will have highly developed sales and negotiation skills and be comfortable in influencing others and building relationships both internally and externally.
